AB1482

Monday was my last visit to Sacramento for AB1482. I spoke at the press junket in March. I testified, lobbied, made calls, and pushed social media out. I went out of my comfort zone by miles and to Sacramento 8 times. I met more wonderful people than I can name.

By Tuesday, AB1482 had passed both senate and assembly floors. In addition, Governor Newsom has said he would sign the bill. We have won a statewide rent cap of 5% plus CPI and Just Cause eviction protections.

I couldn't be more thrilled, proud, humbled, and grateful for every single person who busted their butts on this.

To the courageous Assemblyembers Chiu, Bloom, Bonta, Grayson, and Wicks - thank you. To our local representatives that supported the bill - which includes Jerry Hill, Kevin Mullin, and Marc Berman - thank you.

It always has been and continues to be my honor to work with Daniel Saver, lawyer extraordinaire.

Christian Ollano , I would have never made it to the Capitol without you, literally and figuratively. You were my safe place in the middle of the storm. I can't thank you enough.

Finally, thank you to all the sister organizations, tenants, and tenant organizers who worked tirelessly to get this bill through. Thank you to Tenants Together, ACCE, PICO CA, Housing Now!, Faith in Action Bay Area.

Stasha Powell,
